People of the Second Chance :: Mike Foster

Mike Foster | Founder, Ethur

In addition to his role on Plain Joe’s executive team, Mike leads an innovative non-profit organization called Ethur.  Most recently, Mike helped launch People of the Second Chance, which is a scandalous movement of radical grace in life and leadership. He and his wife Jennifer live in Southern California with their two children.

  • You cant experience happiness until you experience pain; then you can compare the difference.
  • Broken is beautiful.
  • Our scars are our strength.
  • Rock bottom is a real place.
  • We need radical grace in life and leadership.
  • We think we are pretty good at being Christ followers, yet statistics and research would point otherwise.
  • Over the years we’ve been so focused on growing our churches, building leaders, gaining influence and being innovative and failed at developing Christianity’s killer app: GRACE.
  • Christianity doesn’t work very well without grace.
  • Pain and disappointment is on the increase.
  • People believe the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off… due to budget cuts.
  • We live in a vulture culture that exposes gossip and failures.
  • We have a judgment crisis.
  • Grace is scarce.
  • Where there is scarcity there is great opportunity.
  • We have an incredible chance to rewrite the rules and people’s perceptions of Christianity.
  • Grace can transform.
  • Overthrow judgment and release love.
  • We don’t drift into better behaviors, we have to make intentional choices.

We need to give a Second Chance

  • We need to be fast to forgive people.
  • We need to give our up our rights for revenge.
  • Forgiveness isn’t being a doormat; it’s a courageous, brave thing.
  • God created grace… it’s in constant motion.
  • It comes in us and is supposed to come out of us.
  • When we hold onto grace, we horde and become rancid.
  • We all need grace.

We need to chase the prodigals.

  • We have too many people standing on the sidelines because of a past failure.
  • We need to remind them that their story doesn’t end in the valley.
  • We have a choice, we can be a part of the judgment problem or the grace solution. We can’t be both.
  • Choose wisely.

Let’s be people of the Second Chance.
