Monday Mind Dump

monday11

Happy Monday everyone! It’s time for the lastest and greatest in my weekly windup of links, Likes, and more!

  • I’ve been busy! So I’ll admit I’m failing a bit on my commitment to daily blogging. The good news is, it’s been good busy and I’m excited about what’s ahead. Stay tuned for more!
  • So I went to see “The Vow” this weekend… and it was very disappointing. I LOVED that Chicago was the backdrop for the movie and was even more surprised to find out that it is based on the true story of a Christian couple. However,  how it was written and produced seemed to be lacking for me. In a movie that’s all about a couple rediscovering themselves, there was all of about 3 minutes of them actually being a couple. It had all of the potential to be a great movie but the story was muddled in how it was told.
  • Church communications + SoCal = March 14. If you are in or near SoCal, or need an excuse to get some California sunshine, don’t miss the 77 Event for Church Communications on March 14 at First Christian Church in Huntington Beach, CA. Guests include Dawn Nicole Baldwin, Drew Goodmanson, Curtis Templeton, Josh Burns, and yours truly. More details here.
  • Huge congrats to Shaun King for kickstaring HopeMob! Late last week, Shaun King and his team successfully kickstarted HopeMob. Huffington Post said, “If Mother Teresa built a platform with the tech base of Groupon, Foursquare, Netflix, and the heart of CNN Heroes, it would look like HopeMob!” It’s a way to leverage social media as a platform to crowd source help and hope to causes and needs around the globe. I’m thrilled the team I serve with, Church Solutions Group, came on board with HopeMob as a founding partner. We believe the church is the hope of the world and are excited to help the church extend that hope through HopeMob!
  • The NeuYear Calendar is on Groupon! In January I interviewed Jesse Phillips, creator of the NeuYear Calendar, a brilliant way to organize your year. The NeuYear calendar is being featured on Groupon today! Hurry up and get one, get your life organized, and help support Jesse!
  • Hillsong United Live in Miami is incredible. If you haven’t picked up a copy yet, do yourself a favor and get one. And while you’re at it, get the DVD, too. Both are available on iTunes. There’s some oldies and some great new anthems from the United crew. The video of the event is stunning, and I haven’t even seen it in bluray yet!
  • A missions trip for the rest of us. If you’re like me, I’m not really good at shoveling dirt, pouring concrete, building walls, painting, or any manual labor for the most part. Unfortunately, that’s all there really ever is for guys to do missions trips. Well, the folks over at Creative Missions have a way for you to use your creative gifts in a way that will serve churches here in the USA. Creative Missions is a missions trip for creatives that will be helping local chuches in Joplin, Mo. and in Northwest Arkansas. Teams of creatives [designers, web geeks, social media experts, and more] will do extreme makeovers, church edition, and help churches with their communication. It’s pretty awesome. Read more here.
  • And finally, like many of you out there, I was swept into the magic of Downtown Abbey. I watched the entire first season in a week and followed the second season to its finale last night. Whew, that was something. That show is crazy and wonderful. I love it. [And did any of you notice some of the suggestive one-liners at the beginning? So funny!] Which leads me to the question of the week…
  • Question of the Week [well, more like a fill-in-the-blank...]: I thought the Downton Abbey season finale was _____________________.
