Monday Morning Mind Dump

  • One more Monday [after today] at Park Community Church. Pretty crazy how quickly the transition is going!
  • A blizzard hit Chicago this weekend and I spent a majority of it inside. Thank God for Netflix, wifi, and GrubHub. This was the view out of my window:
  • I spruced things up a bit around here on the old blog. I get bored with my WordPress themes easily. I think I really like this one, though. As always, woothemes is amazing.
  • On Friday afternoon, after many friends had asked me for my address to send me a Christmas card, I decided I should be a grown up and do Christmas cards, too. I ordered them from MOO Cards and I’m pretty excited. Of course I ordered them a tad bit late and they won’t be arriving until Friday. Guess what I’m doing this weekend?
  • In case you missed my infomercial last week… Park’s worship ministry put out a great Christmas album featuring music from our bands that is a mix of traditional and new tunes for the holiday. It’s available on iTunes and all proceeds to go to benefit Renew Chicago, our outreach ministry to the city. Check it out!
  • Partnership is always a good thing, whether it be between individuals, organizations, or churches. We can do a lot when we work together. I’m pretty stoked to see the partnership between Soul City Church and 37signals for Soul City’s Christmas outreach to the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago. Pretty awesome! Even if you don’t live in Chicago you can get involved. They made a Christmas wishlist a Amazon so you have no excuses.
  • Last week I did a bit of a rant on copying + pasting. If you do communications, art, or anything creative please do all of us a favor and check it out.
  • This week is pretty much marked with continuing to document and write out everything I do at Park. I prided myself on not having a written policy for anything but am now kind of regretting that. It’s been a great exercise, though, and hope it will help Park’s interim Director of Communications, Josh Burns. Announcement about what’s next for me is coming soon!
  • My friends at CreatePossible just launched their website and blog and are giving away a $150 Starbucks gift card to celebrate. I’ve worked with CreatePossible on a few projects like the 12 Cites | 12 Conversations Gatherings and am so excited for them and what’s ahead. They are some of the most remarkable people who have a heart to see things that are advancing the cause of the Church made possible. You’ll want to follow them and keep up with the work they are doing.
  • Oh, and last week another big announcement broke: Cultivate is officially back for 2011. Save the date, May 3-4,  at First Christian Church in Huntington Beach, California. We are headed to the West Coast and are excited for what’s in store. Connect with Cultivate on Facebook and stay connected for more information and updates.
  • I know everyone and their dog tweeted, blogged, tagged, and liked this video last week, but just in case any of you may have missed it…

Monday Morning Mind Dump

  • I only have three more Monday mornings at Park. That’s crazy.
  • Brooke Fraser was AMAZING on Wednesday night at Lincoln Hall. If her tour is coming to your neck of the woods you owe it to yourself to go!
  • Brooke is a worship leader at Hillsong and has a very successful career as a singer/songwriter. At her concert there wasn’t a worship set or any mention of church, God, or Hillsong… but she truly ministered to the crowd that was there. She, through the songs she wrote and the words she shared, proclaimed the Gospel. It was beautiful. <soapbox> I  really believe that’s what Christian art is meant to look like… Christians doing their art in public places, pointing people to the Creator, God. Not using religious words or by creating propaganda, but by using their gifts and talents to speak an unspoken message that causes people’s hearts to see and respond to the beauty of Christ that is glorified in what they create. </soapbox>
  • I drove home to spend Thanksgiving with my family. Thanksgiving was also my birthday, so it was fun to celebrate, even though the bakery got my name wrong!
  • Last week I shared a post on 27 things life has taught me so far. Check it out in case you missed it!
  • On Friday I celebrated “Friendsgiving” with some friends here in Chicago. I have been blessed with some amazing people in my life, and that was what I was most thankful for this year.
  • CatchPhrase has some VERY random phrases in the “Everything” category, but I still love it.
  • My friend Dawn Nicole Baldwin will be sharing ’5 Ways Social Media Can Kill Your Brand’ with M2LIVE on December 2. It’s FREE! Check it out!
  • Jason Fried from 37signals did a great talk at TEDx Midwest on “Why Working at Work Doesn’t Work.” If you haven’t read REWORK [or even if you have] it’s worth watching to consider the way you work. LOVE IT.

  • In other news, I HAVE A JOB!!!!!! I’ll share more about it soon, but I WILL be staying in Chicago and won’t be working a church. I will be helping to serve the Church.
  • Angry Birds will be feeling the Christmas spirit soon.
  • Fast Company did a great article on Willow Creek. Check it out. Also, Willow Creek is looking for a marketing manager for the Leadership Summit. This is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of the largest Christian leadership conference that reaches over 120,000 leaders in 70 different countries in 30 different languages! Details here.
